Starting Nov. 4, 2026, SNAP retailers will be expected to meet the updated staple food stocking standards by stocking on a continuous basis, at a minimum, the following:
- Seven (7) varieties in each of four (4) staple food categories—dairy, grains, protein, and vegetables or fruits – for a total of 28 staple food varieties.
- Three (3) stocking units per variety for a total of 84 stocking units.
- Perishable food in at least three (3) staple food categories.
However, a store specializing in a single staple food category, such as a produce stand specializing in vegetables or fruits, can qualify for authorization if staple food sales make up at least 50% of its total sales.
This calculator is a tool to help retailers plan how to meet the new stocking standards. FNA's Office of Retailer Operations and Compliance will make the official determination about whether a store meets these requirements.
